Grammy and Tony Award Winner Duncan Sheik Whisper back to home Jan. 27 on Victor Records / Sony BMG – Tour dates confirmed
Dec 19th
Brooklyn, NY (Vocus) January 29, 2009
Tony and Grammy-winning songwriter and composer Duncan Sheik (http://www.duncansheik.com/home) returns with his new album Whisper House, due January 27 on Victor Records / Sony BMG. The collection of songs written for a forthcoming theatrical piece. Whisper House marks the first solo album sheiks white limousine time since 2006′s critically acclaimed and coming on the heels of the success of Spring Awakening Broadway musical, along with lyricist Steven Sater and Sheik composed an original score. Described by Variety as the recipient rock the most surprising and exciting to hit the boards for rent, Spring Awakening eight Tony awards, with Sheik earning two Tony Award for Best Orchestration and Best Original Score and a Grammy Award for best album of musical performance. In February, Sheik will begin a nationwide tour with original Spring Awakening cast member Lauren Pritchard.
Whisper House, Sheik uses a narrative approach to songwriting, combining elements of the chamber pop that first brought him critical and commercial recognition. Like Spring Awakening, including the New York Times as a good mixture of straight-up rock, folk and melodic pop, Whisper House is just a pop record that this is a compilation of the musical. Structured as a melodrama, each of the 10 songs on the album with the story of a sad Childs and some desire to frame as seen through the eyes of the ghosts that haunt the remote, World War II-era Maine lighthouse where they live . Singer-keyboardist Holly Brooke plays a prominent role alongside Sheik on several of the songs ..
understanding Whisper House came when actor Keith Powell (30 Rock) approached Sheik a musical instrument played with him to develop. Following a trip Powell to New England, a story began to emerge around a lighthouse. Up and coming playwright Kyle Jarrow was asked to script writing. Sheik wrote most of the music during a writing retreat on an island off the coast of Charleston. A native of the south, he explained, Charleston, the history of ghost stories, a Southern tradition that I kind of grew up. I reconnected with it somehow and use it to the lyrics of songs to write. After this narrative was so much more rich and important, and it was so much fun to the personality of these ghosts to write, this death, the great malice and I could tell by their voices. It felt really good and was very inspiring.
Duncan Sheik
launched his musical career 11 years ago with his self-titled debut album Duncan Sheik, which earned a Grammy nomination for Best Male Vocal. He was later rewarded for his criticism unique brand of folk-pop .. Sheikhs last studio album, White Limousine, was released in January 2006 and cheers to the New York Times described the music as sheikhs, layers of the equipment that add harmonic subtlety, emotional substance and a sense of distance physics with songs that feel lotus scented fairy tales. Career highlights sheikhs can be seen on a 2 CD collection of songs titled Brighter / Later: A Duncan Sheik Anthology, released by Rhino in October 2006.
